Next week we will start our project on the history of the atom. Students will be assigned groups today. Each group should bring materials for the project, including play-doh and and a base to put the project on. This project should be inexpensive but still be a good demonstration of the evolution of atomic structure.
All students should check EDline to make sure they are not missing any work. A grade of zero will be given if makeup work is not turned in. Remember, there is a 3 day timeline after an excused absence.

Our chapter seven test has been moved to Monday. We will review tomorrow (Friday). Ms. Carr spoke to students in class today about the academic changes they will be experiencing as freshmen, such as GPA, community service, and scheduling. She also spoke to them about the ACT. I encourage students to begin studying for the ACT as soon as possible - IT HELPS. Students should understand the gravity of this test, but not be afraid of it. Remember, I am here to help. As a teacher, my students' education is my top priority, and I will do anything I can to help them succeed.

_____________________________________________________________________________________
Students will have a test Friday on Chapters 4 and 5. As usual, we will review the day before the test. There has been a problem with excessive talking in class. While this is a relatively large class and it may be tempting to talk, there is no excuse for bad behavior. I will be assigning detention to any student talking out of turn. After the first detention, I will be calling parents to discuss further action. Parents, remember I will be glad to meet with you if you have any questions or concerns about your child. Students, remember your manners. Proverbs 10:19.

We have been studying dimensional analysis for a week now. If you are having problems or need help, I encourage you to come to the conference room by Ms. Carr's office during fourth period or my classroom during seventh period. Of course, you will need a note from the teacher whose class you will be missing. Also, you need to sign the sheet outside my door so I know which students (and how many) to expect. I am also here after school until around 3:30. If you need help, PLEASE let me know. I will be glad to work with you on an individual basis or in small groups.

Hello, students and parents! I'm so excited about the upcoming year here at Pike Liberal Arts School. My number one priority as a teacher is to facilitate growth. I'm here to help, and I will do my absolute best to encourage students toward success.
In order to succeed in this class, students will need:
Pencil
Paper
Good organizational and time management skills
Scientific calculator
The scientific calculator may be as simple as you like - you can get them at the Dollar Tree for a dollar. If the student knows he or she would like to go into a scientific or mathematical field in college and would like a more advanced calculator, that is fine. However, ANY CALCULATOR MORE ADVANCED THAN A TI-83 WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN CLASS.
A syllabus will be sent home on Friday to be signed by the student and parents and returned the following Monday.
Homework assignments will be posted here daily, and Edline will be updated weekly.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at rlowe@pikelib.com.
Thank you,
Robyn Lowe
